Who Can Actually Apply
This is where you want to pay close attention, because the eligibility rules are specific. To apply for the 2027 cycle, you need to be:
- A current high school or home-schooled student graduating during the 2026–2027 academic year, attending school in one of the 50 U.S. states, D.C., Puerto Rico, or select DoD schools abroad
- A U.S. citizen, U.S. national, permanent resident, refugee, asylee, Cuban-Haitian entrant, or humanitarian parolee
- Carrying at least a 3.0 GPA
- Planning to attend an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution

The Selection Process, Broken Down
This scholarship runs on four phases, and understanding them ahead of time will save you a lot of guessing later.
Phase 1: Online Application (Aug 3 – Sept 30)

Phase 2: Semifinalists (October)
Everyone gets notified of their status by the end of October. About 1% of applicants move forward as semifinalists, and this is where the real application shows up — essays, a transcript, and a recommendation, all due in November.
Phase 3: Regional Finalists (Late January/Early February)
Out of roughly 1,200 semifinalists, 250 advance to become regional finalists. This phase includes a live interview with Coke Scholar alumni and foundation staff.
Phase 4: Coke Scholars Weekend (April)
The final 150 scholars are invited to Atlanta for the required Coke Scholars Weekend, where their selection is confirmed. This is also where they join a huge, active alumni network — something that keeps paying off well beyond the $20,000.
The whole thing is achievement-based, not needs-based, so it comes down to leadership, academic performance, and service – not household income.
