Here is the thing about the Regeneron Science Talent Search. It is not asking for your grades. It is not asking what clubs you joined. It is asking what you actually discovered. It is the oldest and most prestigious science competition for high school students in America, running since 1942, and the top prize of $250,000 is the largest academic award available to a US high school student anywhere in the country. 2. The Gates Scholarship
Award Amount: Full cost of attendance for all four years of undergraduate study, including tuition, fees, room, board, books, and transportation
Who it is for: Minority US high school seniors (African American, Hispanic American, Asian and Pacific Islander American, or American Indian/Alaska Native) who are US citizens or permanent residents, Pell Grant eligible, with a minimum 3.3 GPA

Three hundred students get this every year. That is it. But those three hundred students get everything paid for, not just tuition, for their entire undergraduate education. The Gates Scholarship is what is called a last-dollar award, which means it covers whatever is left over after other financial aid. If you come from a low-income minority background and you are in your senior year of high school, this is the most important application you will make this year. The selection process is thorough and it looks for leadership, community involvement, and academic achievement together.

3. QuestBridge National College Match
Award Amount: Full four-year scholarship at a partner university, covering everything. Some partner universities value this at over $300,000 total.
Who it is for: High school seniors with a minimum 3.5 GPA and demonstrated financial need. Household income is typically under $65,000 for a family of four, though QuestBridge has no hard cutoff.
Deadline: The 2026 National College Match application closed October 1, 2026 at 11:59pm PT. Match Rankings were due October 15, 2026.
QuestBridge is one of the most extraordinary programmes in American education. It connects high-achieving, low-income students with full scholarships at more than 55 of the best colleges in the country, including Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, and Duke. If you matched, you are going to one of those schools for free. If you did not match this cycle, the Regular Decision process still opens doors. 4. Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship
Award Amount: Up to $55,000 per year for two to three years, covering tuition, living expenses, books, and required fees
Who it is for: Current community college students with sophomore status by January 1, 2027, or recent community college graduates (since spring 2022), with a minimum 3.5 GPA, no previous attendance at a four-year institution, and family income up to $95,000

The Jack Kent Cooke Transfer Scholarship provides up to $55,000 per year and comes with career advising, internship stipends, and a community of fellow scholars. It is specifically designed for students who have the talent for a top university but started somewhere else first. About 85 scholars are selected each year.

5. Be Bold No-Essay Scholarship
Award Amount: $25,000
Who it is for: Any student enrolled in or planning to enrol in a US college or university. No essay, no minimum GPA, no citizenship restriction.

Yes, it is $25,000 and there is no essay. The Bold.org scholarship is awarded to the student with the most compelling profile on the platform. It takes less than two minutes to apply. 6. Coca-Cola Scholars Program
Award Amount: $20,000 disbursed over four years
Who it is for: US high school seniors graduating in the 2026 to 2027 academic year who are US citizens, nationals, permanent residents, or qualify under federal financial aid guidelines, with a minimum 3.0 GPA. International students and US citizens attending expat or American schools abroad are not eligible.
Deadline: Applications open August 3, 2026. Deadline is September 30, 2026 at 5pm Eastern.
One hundred and fifty students win this every year from a pool of over 100,000 applicants. The Coca-Cola Scholars Program is not looking for the student with the highest GPA. It is looking for the student who has made the most meaningful impact in their community and shown genuine leadership. Semifinalists are notified by end of October 2026, with finalist interviews following. 7. Dell Scholars Program

8. Horatio Alger Scholarship

Here is what makes the Horatio Alger Scholarship genuinely different. It does not require a 4.0 GPA. The minimum is a 2.0. This one tends to fly under the radar because everyone focuses on the flagship Coca-Cola Scholars Programme. But the foundation also runs a dedicated scholarship for two-year college students, recognising that the community college pathway is just as worthy of investment. If you are enrolled at a community college and you meet the general Coca-Cola criteria, this is worth researching separately.

10. National Merit Scholarship Program
Award Amount: $2,500 from the National Merit Corporation directly; additional corporate and college-sponsored awards can significantly increase the total value. Many universities offer full-tuition packages to National Merit Finalists.
Who it is for: US high school students who take the PSAT/NMSQT in October of their junior year and score in the top 1% in their state
Timeline: The 2027 National Merit competition is based on the PSAT/NMSQT taken in October 2025. Semifinalists notified December 2025 to January 2026. Finalists announced February 2026. Scholarship winners notified March to June 2027.
The National Merit Scholarship Programme does not work like a normal application. You enter automatically by taking the PSAT/NMSQT in junior year. If your score is high enough, you become a Semifinalist, then a Finalist, and eventually a winner. The direct award of $2,500 actually understates the value, because hundreds of universities offer their own substantial merit awards to National Merit Finalists on top of the base amount. Prepare seriously for the PSAT in your junior year. This is worth it.

11. Chick-fil-A Scholarship
Award Amount: $2,500 per year, with top recipients receiving up to $25,000 over four years
Who it is for: Current Chick-fil-A team members or high school and college students with a minimum 3.0 GPA and community service involvement

The Scholarship America Dream Award exists specifically for students who are already enrolled and struggling financially to finish what they started. It is renewable, which means you can reapply and keep receiving support across multiple years of college. 13. AXA Scholarship
Award Amount: Up to $25,000 for national winners; $10,000 for state-level winners
Who it is for: US high school seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA and a demonstrated record of initiative, community service, and extracurricular achievement

The AXA Achievement Scholarship makes a specific point of saying it is not looking for the student with the best grades. It wants the student who made something happen outside the classroom. State-level winners of $10,000 advance to a national competition where the most distinguished candidates receive $25,000. Healthcare is one of the most in-demand career fields in the country right now, and the Tylenol Future Care Scholarship exists to get more talented students into it. 15. Hispanic Scholarship Fund
Award Amount: $500 to $5,000 per award

19. Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship
